Winter Dog Friendly Activities

Hello & Happy Monday!!

As a full time student for over 6 years, I was elated to finally get a puppy! I have a full time stay at home job that enables me to spend more time with him, which I love. While he gets tons of love and attention, with the arrival of our first son, things have shifted a little.

Fast forward to today after welcoming our first son, and it’s been a struggle to show him the same amount of love especially a midst the holiday season.

As a new mom and the holidays in full swing, I rarely have extra time for anything. Every minute I have goes into work and caring for the baby and our pup can get lost in the mix. That being said, I thought I would compile a list of tips, tricks and recommendations for fun outdoor activities to do with your pup during my favorite time of the year.

Burt’s day typically starts with breakfast, a long walk, followed by sleeping while mom works, and then a snack, like True Chews. Since he can easily break out into hives due to food allergies, we have to be careful as to what we give him. True Chews are some of his favorites! Whether you’re showing your pup love with these fab treats or others, there are more ways to give them some attention this winter below.

Dog Friendly Winter Activities

TAKE A CLASS:

Whether your dog needs to learn some new tricks or you just want to give them some attention, dog classes are great! It’s also an opportunity to meet other local dog owners and make friends.

FARMERS MARKET:

Since Frenchies can’t handle the heat too well, I love going to the local farmer’s market in early winter. Typically markets are open til about the second week of December and are dog friendly. Browse local vendors and support your community all while getting out and about with your pup.

CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING:

Every community typically has a local tree lighting that brings friends and family together. What’s great about these events is that it brings local vendors, families, and even pets to celebrate. It’s a great way to support small businesses, get out and about with your pup and celebrate the holidays.

SLEDDING:

Cold weather brings snow, so you can easily bring your dog to a nearby park or sledding hill. There is no cost and it’s a fun way to enjoy the snow with your pup.

CHRISTMAS PARADE:

In New York City the Macy’s Day Parade is a BIG DEAL. While the streets can be jam packed it’s another opportunity to get out and about if you have a small dog and enjoy the winter festivities. One of the local hotels offers a space to watch the parade with your dog.

SIMPLE OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES:

Don’t have time to make the trek to any of those options? Don’t stress! From throwing the ball outside, to hiking or even just letting them jump in the remaining leaves from the fall, there are endless options. Just make sure to get outside and enjoy the season!
