Easy Vegan Shamrock Shake









Let’s talk Shamrock Shakes!


The original Shamrock Shake, a mint-flavored soft-serve vanilla milkshake was first introduced in 1970, and is only available at McDonald’s each year. It’s festive, flavorful, many crave them year round. That being said, I decided to create my own replica shake!


Believe it or not, this was one of the first recipes I ever created back in 2014!




What does it taste like?


Very minty, and very creamy. These are the ingredients McDonald’s shares on its website: reduced-fat vanilla ice cream, light whipped cream, and “Shamrock Shake Syrup.”  Instead of the trade-secret syrup, we use peppermint extract and spinach to achieve that gorgeous green hue. Warning: A little bit of the extract goes a lonnngggg way, so pour extra slowly and be sure you’re not just eyeballing this one in. 


Bonus, we also do a lil bit of fresh vanilla bean for a boost of flavor!



Do you need ice cream? 


You can always pass on the ice cream if looking for something less decadent and more of a smoothie. However, if you’re wanting to mirror that real deal, add a little ice cream! 








What’s great about this shake? Everything! It’s quick, easy, packs spinach, fresh banana rather than additional added sugar, you can pass on the ice cream and just add additional banana if desired, add coconut milk rather than almond milk for something richer, features real vanilla bean, and it tastes just like the real deal!

Units Scale


  • 1 handful fresh spinach
  • 1/2 tsp peppermint extract
  • 1 vanilla been pod, seeds
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 2 scoops vanilla ice cream – you can choose dairy free
  • 1 cup almond milk or full fat coconut milk (coconut milk for richer flavor)



  1. Blend the ice cream, extract, spinach, and almond milk first until smooth
  2. Now add the remaining ingredients.
  3. Garnish with dairy free whip, mint and stevia sweetened chocolate chips
