If you haven’t heard the news, pasta chips are a thing! I know what you’re thinking, I’ll take my pasta the traditional way, hard pass lol. I’m the same when it comes to food trends such as these. My train of thought is that, if it’s so good.. why has it only been discovered until now? Believe it or not, fried pasta has always been a thing. The air fryer on the other hand has not. Like food trends, trendy devices are also not my thing.

Why air fryers?

A company sent me an air fryer when they first came about years ago, and I didn’t open it until, now lol. My thoughts were that it seemed interesting, but more time needed to pass to use it for recipes to ensure that more people owned one. Today, everyone has one! What’s great about the air fryer is that it cuts cook times in half, cuts down on the grease, and while it takes up counter space, it’s less hassle to clean than your pots and pans etc. I personally love playing around with it because in many ways it’s like exploring foods all over again.

So why pasta chips?

I have to say, if there is one thing that’s always lingering around my cabinets it’s old pasta. We’ll use half a box and it somehow get’s lost in the back and never seen again. Gone are the days where you have to toss pasta. Random pasta? Throw it in the air fryer! Out of all the flavors we’ve explored, I’d have to say these are my favorite when paired with blue cheese and the churro flavor are also really good!

You can go wrong with pasta chips if you over season them or over cook them. Once you cross a certain threshold they just taste burnt and it compromises the flavor. The flavor literally dissipates and they’ll taste like nothing. The two varieties that truly don’t lose flavor, are these and the churro variety! Others, you have to continue to pack on the flavor.

Instructions

  1. Pasta Chips: Prepare pasta according to box, drain, don’t rinse the pasta. Drizzle with a lil olive oil to prevent the pasta sticking together (optional)
  2. In a bowl combine the wing sauce, garlic powder and onion powder. Set aside.
  3. Coat the cooked pasta with vegan butter. Toss and coat.
  4. Pour the buffalo sauce mixture over the cooked pasta
  5. Heat air fryer to 400 and cook for 15-20 minutes, tossing the pasta every 5 minutes to check crispness. Not all the pieces will be crisp but will do so as they sit. Keep chips in the fryer for an additional 5 minutes to crisp up once timer goes off.
  6. Serve with vegan blue cheese and garnish with chives.
